Red Phone Booth
Downtown · Atlanta, GA
Every Red Phone Booth in America answers to this one. The booth, the code, the whole liturgy — it started here, downtown, in 2016.
Founder Stephen de Haan ran Buckhead's Andrews Entertainment District for fifteen years — including Prohibition, Atlanta's first speakeasy cigar bar — and when that block was redeveloped, he moved the idea downtown and perfected it. The concept honors his grandfather, a Prohibition-era pharmacist who dispensed whiskey strictly "for medicinal purposes." The family business, you might say, continues.
The Door
An authentic red British K6 phone booth stands at the entrance. Dial the nightly code — from the website, a member, or a well-connected concierge — and the back swings open into a restored hundred-year-old room: hand-painted ceiling tiles backlit overhead, a honey onyx bar, Italian leather chesterfields below.
The Bar
Pre-Prohibition cocktails made the hard way — fresh-squeezed everything, hand-chipped ice — beside a rare-whiskey bench deep enough for Macallan and Pappy flights. The kitchen is real too: oysters, carpaccio, Neapolitan pizza from the Amalfi oven next door. Nobody leaves for dinner.
The Humidor
A cedar walk-in of a hundred-plus labels, anchored by the house 18th Amendment — a medium-bodied maduro named for the law that made rooms like this necessary in the first place. Membership starts around $120 a year and travels: Atlanta, Buckhead, Nashville, Dallas, Miami, and counting. Not required to get in — the code is the only key that matters.
Why We Picked It
Because this is the room the others are copies of — Atlanta's best reputation numbers, its best cocktail program, and a lineage that runs from a grandfather's pharmacy through Buckhead's original speakeasy to a booth now dialing in five states. We listed its Las Vegas sibling; the mothership outranks it.
