Don Leoncio Cigar Bar

Don Leoncio was born in the Dominican Republic in 1929, in the middle of a tobacco boom. His sons put his name over a door on Canal Street, and the family trade came with it.

The room holds one of the city's grandfathered cigar-bar licenses — smoke and whiskey together, indoors, legally — and pairs it with the thing most of the exempt rooms lost along the way: cigars rolled under the house's own name, from Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Honduran leaf.

The Roll

The house hand-rolled line is the draw — the family hires its rollers out for live-rolling at weddings and events, and the shop carries an authorized Plasencia shelf beside its own work. Ask what came off the bench most recently; the answer is the order.

The Room

Big leather chairs, sofas, card tables, and screens — the city's best cigar-in-hand sports den, with live music and tastings rotating through the calendar and local art on the walls. It's built for the long game in every sense.
